India is the largest producer + exporter of chillies in the world. Guntur, Byadagi, Teja, and S17 are the big varieties buyers ask for.
1. Types that sell well
- *Whole Dried Chilli*: Teja, S17, 334, Byadagi - for color + heat
- *Chilli Powder/Ground*: Needs more testing
- *Chilli Flakes & Crushed*: For food industry
- *Oleoresin*: For color/heat extraction
2. Key Documents Needed
This is where most rejections happen, so get this right:
- *IEC + GST + FSSAI Export License*
- *Spices Board Registration + Certificate* - mandatory
- *Phytosanitary Certificate* - from Plant Quarantine
- *Lab Test Reports*: Aflatoxin, Pesticide Residue, ETO, Sudan Dye, Heavy metals
- *Health Certificate + Certificate of Origin*
- *Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Shipping Bill, B/L*
US FDA and EU have zero tolerance for ETO and Sudan dye. Always pre-test.
3. Packing & Shipping
- *Packing*: 5kg/10kg/25kg new PP bags with inner liner. Must be moisture-proof. Vacuum pack for powder
- *Fumigation*: Often required. Get certificate
- *Mode*:
- *Sea FCL/LCL*: Most common. 20ft container holds ∼17 MT. Transit 25-40 days
